A decades-old cold case from Wisconsin involving a missing mother has been resolved, the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office announced. **AUDREY BACKEBERG**, who disappeared at the age of 20 in 1962, has been found alive and well at the age of 82.

According to the sheriff’s office, **AUDREY BACKEBERG** is currently living out of state. The investigation revealed that her disappearance was a voluntary decision and not the result of any criminal activity or foul play.

**AUDREY BACKEBERG** vanished from her family’s home on July 7, 1962. A babysitter reported that she and **AUDREY** hitchhiked to Madison, Wisconsin, before taking a Greyhound bus to Indianapolis, Indiana. The babysitter stated that she last saw **AUDREY** walking away from the bus stop, and she never returned home or contacted her family again.

The Charley Project, which profiles cold cases of missing persons, noted that **AUDREY** had married **RONALD BACKEBERG** at a young age, and their relationship was reportedly troubled, with allegations of abuse. Despite the babysitter’s claim that **AUDREY** left of her own accord, her family insisted she would never abandon her children. **RONALD BACKEBERG** passed a polygraph test conducted after her disappearance.

Earlier this year, the Sauk County Sheriff’s Office assigned the case to a detective, who conducted a thorough review of all evidence, re-interviewed witnesses, and uncovered new insights, leading to the resolution of the case.
