Off-Duty New Jersey Police Officer Charged After Alleged Home Invasion Assault
REBECCA SAYEGH, a 32-year-old off-duty police officer from Toms River Township, New Jersey, has been charged with multiple offenses following an alleged home invasion and assault incident last week. The Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that Sayeh faces charges including home invasion burglary, two counts of assault, criminal mischief, terroristic threats, and resisting arrest.
The incident occurred on April 25 in Berkeley Township during a domestic disturbance. Authorities responded to the scene at approximately 11:20 p.m. after reports of an altercation. Upon arrival, officers discovered that Sayeh had allegedly smashed the front glass door of a residence, entered the home, and physically assaulted two victims inside. Additionally, Sayeh damaged the hood of a vehicle parked in the driveway, which belonged to one of the victims.
Efforts to peacefully arrest Sayeh were reportedly met with resistance, but she was eventually taken into custody at the scene. Initially, she was served with charges via summons pending her first appearance in Ocean County Superior Court. However, due to the severity of the accusations, she was recharged on April 28, 2023, under a warrant issued by the court.
Sayeh was subsequently transported to the Ocean County Jail, where she remains awaiting a detention hearing. Authorities have commended the Berkeley Township Police Department for their swift action and investigative efforts in the case.
Interestingly, Sayeh was previously recognized for her bravery in 2021 when she assisted in rescuing a homeowner and their pet during a house fire. The Toms River Police Department awarded her a Class B commendation for her efforts at that time.
The case has garnered significant attention given Sayeh’s role as a law enforcement officer. A representative from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office emphasized that the charges reflect the seriousness of the alleged offenses.
Fox News has reached out to the Toms River Township Police Department for further comment on the matter.
