Multiple Students Hospitalized After School Bus Crashes in Chicago
Over twenty students were rushed to the hospital on Friday morning following a collision between a school bus and an SUV in Chicago. The incident occurred on the Southwest Side of the city just after 7:30 a.m., as confirmed by the CHICAGO POLICE DEPARTMENT to Fox News Digital.
The school bus was transporting students from the OAK LAWN-HOMETOWN SCHOOL DISTRICT 123 and was stopped at a red light. An SUV, driven by a 64-year-old man, attempted to execute a right turn in front of the bus, resulting in the bus hitting the SUV’s passenger side.
Medical officials reported that six students and both drivers were transported to LITTLE COMPANY OF MARY HOSPITAL, six students to CHRIST HOSPITAL, and five students to HOLY CROSS HOSPITAL. All individuals involved are reported to be in fair condition.
Authorities have stated that citations against the SUV driver are pending. The school district has yet to comment on the incident.
This crash follows a separate tragedy less than a month ago in South Carolina, where a school bus accident claimed the life of a 13-year-old student and left five others critically injured. That incident involved a bus transporting middle school students from North Carolina, which reportedly blew a tire and flipped on the highway. The deceased was identified as JOSE MARIE GONZALEZ LINARES, with 17 others hospitalized as a result of the crash.
