ALAIN HAMEL, a father from Washington state, is demanding clarity in the investigation surrounding the tragic death of his 18-year-old daughter, LIZ HAMEL, at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) earlier this year. LIZ was found unconscious outside a dorm on the UCSB campus on February 14 after reportedly falling from a breezeway. She succumbed to her injuries days later, leaving her family and community in shock.

Despite months of investigation, the circumstances leading to her death remain unclear. In an interview with FOX NEWSSANDRA SMITH, ALAIN HAMEL expressed gratitude for the empathy shown by the UCSB Police Department but emphasized the lack of detailed information due to the ongoing nature of the case.

ALAIN revealed that his family recently reached out to the community for assistance in identifying a man who was with LIZ on the night of the incident. Within 24 hours, UCSB police located and interviewed the individual, whom ALAIN described as a person of interest. He praised the swift action of the authorities, stating, “I think it was incredibly successful… I can’t say enough for Santa Barbara. They really helped us so much to move the investigation forward.”

In a statement, UCSB confirmed that the individual had been interviewed and reiterated that the investigation remains active. The university is collaborating with the Santa Barbara District Attorney’s Office and the Sheriff’s Office to uncover the truth.

ALAIN clarified that the man in question is not a suspect in his daughter’s death. He shared that LIZ and the individual had met at a noodle bar that evening, and their interaction appeared to be amicable. Surveillance footage captured them together briefly before LIZ was found unconscious at 10:27 p.m.

Remembering his daughter, ALAIN described LIZ as a source of immense joy and pride. “She was our world, our only child, and everything to us. We were so lucky to have 18 years with her,” he said.

Authorities have established a tipline (805-335-3851) for anyone with information related to LIZ’s death. The investigation continues as the family seeks closure and justice for their beloved daughter.
